Itinerary
This is a typical itinerary for this product
Pass By: Ponte Romana, Rua Doutor Araujo Lima, Ponte de Lima 4990-022 Portugal
Cross the Roman Bridge over the River Lima, like a true pilgrim from St. James.
Stop At: Ponte de Lima, Ponte de Lima, Viana do Castelo District, Northern Portugal
We will discover, as a first stop, one of the oldest towns in Portugal, (royal charter of 1125), in a true journey through time.
We will walk through the typical alleys, the traditional shops, the medieval bridge and the panorama of the Lima river, so beautiful and mystical that it instigated the legend of the “Rio Lethes” in the Roman soldiers who passed through here.
Duration: 1 hour
Stop At: Centro de Interpretacao e Promocao do Vinho Verde, Rua da Fonte da Vila 38 Casa Torreada Barbosa Aranha, Ponte de Lima 4990-087 Portugal
After being introduced to the Historical Centre of Ponte de Lima, you will taste the famous “Vinho Verde”, as old and authentic as this region.
On a guided visit to the “Vinho Verde” Interpretation and Promotion Centre, you will have the opportunity to learn more about the history and tradition of this exclusively Portuguese wine and finish with a great tasting of this refreshing wine.
Duration: 1 hour
Stop At: Santuario de Santa Luzia, Estrada de Santa Luzia, Viana do Castelo 4900-408 Portugal
After a meal equal to the people of this land – generous in quantity and tradition – it’s time to digest it in the best possible way, while visiting the Sanctuary of Santa Luzia.
Built in the begginning of the 20th century, on top of Santa Luzia hill, this Sanctuary is based on a Romanesque-Byzantine basilica, whose imposing rose windows are the largest in the Iberian Peninsula and the second largest in Europe. There, we will contemplate what was considered by National Geographic Magazine as the 3rd most beautiful panorama in the world.
Duration: 30 minutes
Stop At: Viana do Castelo, Viana do Castelo, Viana do Castelo District, Northern Portugal
This is the scenario we saw from the top of the Santa Luzia viewpoint – the Historical Centre of this city, whose privileged location relating to land routes (“Caminhos de Santiago”), river and sea routes, made the walled-fortress construction crucial, in the 14th century.
It is impossible not to give in to the charms of the alleys of the Historical Centre, one of the most beautiful and well preserved in the country, either due to the beautiful armored façades or the precious tile panels, constituting an authentic compendium of the history and tradition of Portugal.
Duration: 1 hour
Stop At: Museu do Traje, Praca da Republica Centro Historico, Viana do Castelo 4900-520 Portugal
Once our strength is reinvigorated with traditional sweets, we will visit the National Costume’s Museum, which gathers a collection of historical clothing and costume accessories from the 18th century to the present, in permanent exhibition but also with access to temporary exhibitions.
It is charming to discover the roots of the tradition of Viana do Castelo, in the context of the Alto-Minho region, as you visit this museum.
