Canico Trip Overview
The Madeira Whale Museum’s permanent exhibitions occupy over 1.000m2 divided into two rooms. The permanent exhibitions are open to the public since September 2011 and the visitor is invited to explore the waters around Madeira to discover its riches and learn more about the whales, dolphins and other marine life that inhabit these waters.
The visitor is also transported in time to the early 1940s, to learn more about the history of whaling in Madeira.
The exhibition begins in the Whaling Room, with the rediscovery of ancient times through a series of objects, printed images, movies and multimedia kiosks. This room is divided into several thematic areas, ranging from the operation of the lookout network to the factory for processing the animals, as well as the hunting techniques, the reconstruction of the whaling fleet and crews and the contextualization of whaling in Madeira on the world.
