Itinerary
Day 1: Full Day West Tour (09:00 – 17:00 approximately)
Stop At: Baia de Camara de Lobos, Caminho Trincheira, Camara De Lobos, Madeira 9300-159 Portugal
Câmara de Lobos is a pretty fishing town that is located on the south-eastern side of Madeira and makes for a pleasant day trip from Funchal. Câmara de Lobos is a working town specialising in the fishing of the night dwelling Scabbard fish. This hard fishing lifestyle is reflected in the town, with small traditional tenements that house multiple families crowding around the cliffs, while at dawn the returning fishermen head to the bars to drink Poncha, a strong alcoholic drink

Stop At: Cabo Girao, Camara De Lobos, Madeira Portugal
An attraction that’s certainly not for the faint-hearted, the Skywalk on the cliffs of Cabo Girão should not be missed on your next trip to Madeira. Jutting out of the side of some of the highest cliffs in Europe (580 meters above sea level), the glass walkway offers incredible views of the Madeira coastline, Funchal and the town of Câmara de Lobos

Ribeira Brava (Wild River) is named after its river; when it rains heavily in the mountains, waters rapidly run down to sea. It is a small town on the southwestern coast of the island with steep valleys on either side and is a very pleasant tourist stop. In between these valleys is the Madeira Sports centre with excellent facilities, which attract all types of sports and athletics

A new road traverses the 1004 m high Encumeada pass. Starting in Ribeira Brava at the south coast, the road winds up to Serra d’Água (which was the island’s first water power station) and arrives at the top of the valley giving incredible views of both the south and the north coast

Paul da Serra in the municipal county of Ponta do Sol, Madeira, it is the largest and most extensive plateau of Madeira about 24 square kilometres (9.3 sq mi), with an altitude average of about 1,500 metres (4,900 ft). Its highest point is the peak Pico do Paul at 1,640 metres (5,380 ft) from where you can admire the length of the entire plateau. On days with good visibility, both the south and north coasts are visible.
Paul Sierra is considered the most important area of the islands groundwater recharge, and their planar structure facilitates the infiltration of a significant part of high rainfall year, while slowing the runoff towards the sea

With their natural beauty and peculiar origins, theses pools are an attraction for thousands of national and international tourists alike. The water is of excellent quality and the infrastructures match the level of excellence of this beach complex.

This is precisely the stunning scenery of one of the most popular beaches in this parish, Porto do Seixal Beach, a natural black sand beach located right next to Seixal harbour. With a breathtaking landscape — the green cliffs and mountains of the island’s north coast — this unsupervised beach offers its visitors access to the toilet facilities, showers and the bar of Clube Naval do Seixal Pools, right next to it, which is a free access facility with a natural pool and sun loungers. Here you can rent kayaks and diving equipment

Although considered a coastal village, São Vicente has progressed with time into the more sheltered hinterland. At the edge of the village, directly next to the sea, lies a great boulder, into which the São Vicente chapel was built.
The council of São Vicente consists of the parishes of S. Vicente, Ponta Delgada and Boaventura. A trip through this council reveals a cultural patrimony left by all those who helped to enlarge these three parishes that it encompasses

Day 2: Full Day East Tour (09:00 – 17:00 approximately)
Stop At: Camacha, Camacha, Madeira, Madeira Islands
Camacha is one of the most rural and picturesque villages in Madeira. It is very well known world wide for its wicker basket industry and colourful folklore traditions. Achada da Camacha is the location where football was played for the first time in Portugal in 1875, in fact in 1815 a young student Harry Hinton from Britain residing in Madeira was the first person to introduce a “Foot-Ball” and its rules to his fellow friends.
Through the paths and levada walks one can enjoy the landscape and learn and feel the interesting set of cultural and natural aspects that have fashioned Camacha. Towards the north there are places in which the nature predominates in its pure state, like Poiso and the Montado do Pereiro, where the full panoply and diversity of Madeira’s native exotic inheritance of rare flora and fauna may be appreciated at its finest

Stop At: Pico do Arieiro, E 202, Funchal, Madeira 9000-900 Portugal
Pico do Arieiro, at 1,818 m (5,965 ft) high, is Madeira Island’s third highest peak. Most days, visitors can stand and look down on the clouds. The air is fresh and clear and the sun is very bright. On a clear day it is possible to see the neighbouring island of Porto Santo, 30 miles to the northeast. The footpath northwards towards Pico Ruivo is an important tourist attraction, with a daily average of 1000 tourists trekking on it.
There is easy road access to the summit, with a large car park, a restaurant and souvenir shop. In 2011, an Air Defence Radar Station was built at the top of the mountain near the tourist facilities

Ribeiro Frio is a place famous by its diverse attractions. Here the visitor can find a beautiful garden, a famous trout pond and the beginning of wonderful walking trails

Stop At: Miradouro do Forte do Faial, VR1, Santana, Madeira 9230-067 Portugal
Faial is a small picturesque village located on the northeastern coast of the Island named after a local tree known as faia ‘myrica faya’. Settlers first colonized Faial around 1519 and were mostly Moorish & Gallician. During the first settlement when the sugar plantation was at its peak, water mills were built in the rivers of Ribeira do Faial and Ribeira Seca to crush sugar cane and today ruins may still be seen under the bridge.
Faial was also known for its bridges, the largest being 130 metres and known as Ponte das Sete Bocas (bridge of the seven mouths) but unfortunately in 1984 the bridge collapsed during a severe storm.
Faial’s main industry is agriculture; the best example is perhaps the anona ‘Cherimoya’ fruit. It’s the most common produced and to promote it, in 1990, an exhibition took place that has now become a big event famously known as Festa da Anona, every year in March

Stop At: Santana, Madeira Portugal
Santana a charming town in the northeast of Madeira famous for its unique colourful triangular typical houses built of stone covered with a roof of straw thatch. Originating from the 16th century, nowadays most of them are kept as a tourist attraction. The Madeira Theme Park in Santana has a fantastic exhibition for all ages to learn the history, traditions and cultures of Madeira where one may enjoy its attractions and shows.
48 hours of dancing! One of the largest traditional folklore Festivals is held here every year in July where many folklore groups are invited to participate, not only from Madeira but also from other regions or countries. Santana is a great place from which to explorer some of the best Levada walks Laurisilva forests to Queimadas, Pico das Pedras and for the truly fit, Madeira’s highest point Pico Ruivo, at 1861 m for some spectacular views.
Along the main road is Quinta do Furão (manor house) surrounded by vineyards situated on cliff top with sensational views of the ocean and coastline. Run by a Maderian wine company, every year around the first or second week of September you may be able to experience the old tradition of wine making

The Portela Viewpoint offers one of the most beautiful landscapes of the island, where you can see Porto da Cruz, Penha d’Águia and also part of Santana.The Portela Viewpoint, located between Porto da Cruz and Machico, provides one of the most beautiful landscapes of Madeira. Here you will find magnificent scenery, with mountains that seem to flow down a valley towards the sea.
You can find here an excellent view over Porto da Cruz and Penha d’Águia, which despite being located on the North Coast of the island, belong to the Machico municipality. You can also see the Cortado area in Santana

Stop At: Ponta de Sao Lourenco, Baia da Abra, Machico, Madeira Portugal
Ponta de São Lourenço is the easternmost point of the island of Madeira, it is inside the town of Caniçal and forms a part of the municipality of Machico.
Northeast of the islet is Porto Santo and southeast is Bugio and the Deserted Islands. Nearby are a few islets with the easternmost being Ilhéu do Farol (Farol Islet), where its nearby lighthouse is located

This peculiar corner of the island boasts Madeira’s oldest church, the ‘Capela dos Milagres’, and two forts still bear witness of the locals’ defence against the many pirate attacks on the village.
Machico has a wonderful beach and good facilities for both swimming and sunbathing. This tranquil town boasts some excellent guesthouses and restaurants, and is a good starting point for a number of nice ‘levada’ walks

Day 3: Half Day Nun’s Valley Tour (09:00 – 13:00 or 14:00 – 18:00 approximately)
Stop At: Miradouro Pico Dos Barcelos, Estrada Comandante Camacho de Freitas, Funchal, Madeira Portugal
The Pico dos Barcelos Viewpoint is approximately 355 meters above sea level. From this point there is a splendid panoramic view over Funchal bay and the city area, with the Desertas Islands in the background.
This viewingpoint was recently restructured and nowdays it includes additional green and commercial areas where local crafts and restaurants can be found and also new leisurement facilities. This area underwent substantial improvements in terms of pedestrian and automobile access

The Eira do Serrado viewpoint, located in the mountainous interior of the municipality of Câmara de Lobos, in the ‘heart’ of the island, stands at an elevation of 1,095 m. It offers a fantastic panoramic view of the valley where the picturesque parish of Curral das Freiras lies, and the majestic mountains of the central massif that surround it. Access to the viewpoint is via a footpath that starts in Estalagem Eira do Serrado

Curral das Freiras (‘Nuns Valley’) is a small parish nestling between almost perpendicular mountains in the heart of the island. Both Eira do Serrado and Paredão viewpoints are excellent locations to contemplate the magnificent views of this parish.
The huge cauldron in which Curral das Freiras is sitting was either formed by erosion, which is the more recent theory, or as many still believe, by volcanic activity. In 1566 the nuns from the Santa Clara convent fled from pirates attacking Funchal and found seclusion here, where they also brought the convent treasure
