Along the path, the Erica arborea and the whortleberry species are predominant. However, as it is a transitional area between the heath and the Laurel Forest, classified as Natural World Heritage by UNESCO since December 1999, you may find other species such as the laurel, the holly, the lily-of-the-valley tree, the pau-branco and the Heberdenia.
The Lagoa do Vento is a river basin formed by the water which fall from the top of the cliff, coming from the Ribeira do Lajeado and moving towards the waterfall (or cascade) of Risco.

Itinerary

Stop At: Lagoa do Vento, Rabacal, Calheta, Madeira Portugal
Deep in the valley of western plateau, you will marvel at the rock pools, that over millions of years have been carved out by the waters as they rush towards the sea, forming wonderful waterfalls and cascades.
You will experience a diversity of walking terrain from the flatness of the levadas to the gradients of the mountains tracks, as we make our way up the valley. From forest trekking, along unmarked roots, to scrambling up to the oldest levada in the west of the island.

Stop At: Levada do Alecrim, Rabacal, Madeira 6160-206 Portugal
This is a unique trek where, in the depths of the valley of the Paúl da Serra plateau, where you can admire lagoons and rock formations that have been excavated over the thousands of years of water passing through the sea, forming waterfalls and magnificent cascades. As we explore the valley, we pass through a wide range of terrain, from the levadas plain to the shifting mountains, along paths almost obliterated by the forest until we reach the oldest levada on the west side of the island.
