Praia dos Estudantes is a beach near the centre of Lagos. It is located right next to Praia da Batata. Praia dos Estudantes is known for its Roman style bridge right on the beach.
Praia dos Estudantes is a small beach. Literally, Praia dos Estudantes means Student Beach. Additionally this beach is sometimes also known as Praia da Formosa. The beach is surrounded by rock formations, which extend into the sea and shelter the beach from strong winds.
Praia dos Estudantes actually consists of two sides. The northern part is where you arrive on the beach. You can go to the southern part via a direct tunnel. On this part of the beach you can find the famous Roman style bridge.
The Roman style bridge connects two rock formations. This bridge is the most unique feature of Estudantes beach. It used to be part of the fortress of Pinhão, which doesn’t exist anymore. Nowadays, the bridge attracts plenty of photographers to Praia dos Estudantes.

Pass By: Praia do Pinhão, R. José Formosinho, 8600-315 Lagos, Portugal
This beach can be reached through a footpath that departs from Praia D. Ana and runs along the top of the cliff. The sand is small and embedded between high cliffs, carved in carbonated rocks of warm and intense colors. A huge natural arch rises to the east of the beach, on the other side a viewpoint was built with a staircase that goes down to the sea, allowing you to dive in the salt water without going through the sand. An extensive immersed rocky area invites you to enjoy underwater walks. Although small and very close to the urban fabric of the city of Lagos, the beach is relatively quiet.
Pass By: Praia Dona Ana, 8600-500 Lagos, Portugal
You will get a sea perspective from one of the most popular beaches of Lagos. Don’t forget to make a photograph!
Praia Dona Ana is in the area known as Costa D ‘Oiro, name due to the yellow / golden color of the rocks that surround this beach and which is the largest among the several beaches of unique beauty, protected from the wind and calm and clear waters, located between the city port to the Ponta da Piedade lighthouse. The proximity of Lagos makes it popular in the summer. The rocks on the beach provide shade for visitors. The sea is calm and bathers usually swim to the base of the cliffs and sharp rocks that emerge from the water.
History:
The beach was named after the nun Ana, who lived in the nunnery of Lagos. During World War I, soldiers invaded the convent and murdered all the nuns, with the exception of D. Ana, who had access to a tunnel between the convent and the beach. D. Ana fled through the tunnel and was the only one who survived.
Pass By: Praia do Camilo, Rua da Costa D’Oiro between Praia Dona Ana Beach and Praia da Boneca Beach, Lagos 8600-544 Portugal
Praia do Camilo is the most beautiful beach in the municipality of Lagos and is accessed through a wooden staircase. The cliff that borders the beach offers a fabulous panoramic view of the coastline between Lagos and Albufeira.
This beach is divided by a huge rock formation that you can walk through an excavated tunnel, where you can see a large number of shells embedded in the rock.
Take your time and enjoy the sea view of the most beautiful beach of Lagos and perhaps the of the world! Oh, and don’t forget to make a photo!
Pass By: Praia do Barranco do Martinho, Estr. da Ponta da Piedade, 8600 Lagos, Portugal
Hidden by hills and rock formations, Barranco do Martinho Beach is another one of the beaches in Lagos that escape the radar of hordes of tourists. Its calm waters create the illusion that one is facing a lagoon. The sand color is white and gives us the impression that we are the first to step on it.
Pass By: Ponta da Piedade, Lagos Portugal
The cliffs of the Ponta da Piedade headland is one of the finest natural features of the Algarve. This dramatic limestone coastline is formed of sea pillars, fragile rock arches and hidden grottos, all of which have been chiselled-out by savage winter storms.
The Ponta da Piedade is a bleak and windswept headland, and the beauty of the region is only discovered on descending the cliffs, where the exposed cliffs reveal their golden colour, and the turquoise sea waters lap precariously balanced rock formations. The headland can only be described as stunning.
