Lisboa Trip Overview

The “Kingdom of the Vultures” is a journey through southern Portugal and Spain, which takes us to visit some of the various important areas for these birds. On this tour lasting 3 days and 2 nights of accommodation, you will be able to enjoy the most unexplored corner of southwestern Iberia. There we will find impressive landscapes with exquisite fauna, which is a very rich area for vultures and other birds of prey.

At all times you will be accompanied by a guide, who is expert and very experienced, who will inform you of all the characteristics of the tour. Our guide will inform you of the local traditions and their history, also of the characteristics of the birds along with the most relevant details of the fauna.

Everyone the level are wellcome. We adapt as much as possible to the interest of each participant.

Itinerary

Day 1: Start trip, from Alentejo to the border area of Moura and Barrancos

Stop At: Barrancos, Barrancos, Beja District, Alentejo
Arrival at the meeting point and start of the trip to Alentejo to the border area of Moura and Barrancos.
Duration: 4 hours

Day 2: Noudar Natural Park and La Conteienda Foundation

Stop At: Parque De Natureza De Noudar, Herdade Da Coitadinha Apartado 5, Barrancos 7230 Portugal
In the morning we take a walk through the Noudar Natural Park, where there is still a vegetation cover close to the one that would have been original, as if there had never been any human intervention. These are rich, rugged and difficult forests that still hold Noudar’s greatest secret. The richness and diversity of this territory is the result of its geographic isolation, low human density and being in a transition zone between Spain where the landscape of Sierra Morena and the vast fields of the Alentejo plain are marked.

Stop for lunch in Barrancos.
Duration: 1 hour

Stop At: Fundación La Contienda, HV-2112, 21240 Aroche, Huelva, Spain
In the afternoon we visit the lands of Spain and the Interpretation Center of the Iberian Pig. This project of the La Conteienda Dehesa Sostenible Foundation has allowed the implementation of a sustainable production system where the commitment to the environment is reflected in the conservation and recovery of fauna, especially vultures and the reintroduction of threatened species such as the imperial eagle.

Day 3: Herdade da Contenda and farewell

Stop At: Herdade da contenda, 7860, 7860-045 Moura, Portugal
In the morning we will visit the Herdade da Contenda, a public area with conditional access where we will have the accompaniment of a local guide. In this place there are more than a hundred species of birds, being an important area especially for many birds of prey, with an emphasis on vultures and great eagles. Its unique characteristics make this territory a place of
excellence for the development of tourist activities in nature. Due to its importance and biodiversity, the Herdade da Contenda integrates a Special Protection Zone and a Site of Community Importance of the Natura 2000 Network. It has a very rich fauna, being in Portugal one of the places with the highest concentration of deer. At the end of the visit we stopped for lunch. In the afternoon we start the trip back to the initial meeting point.
