Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival to Lisbon Airport. Transfer (on request) to the hotel in Setubal.

Stop At: Setubal, Setubal, Setubal District, Alentejo
The development of Setúbal has always been linked to the seafaring activities facilitated by its location at the mouth of the River Sado, and it was already one of the country’s main ports in the 14th century.

The Convent of Jesus, which houses the Municipal Museum, is in the Gothic-Manueline style, and the Fort of São Filipe, now converted into a “Pousada” (country-house hotel) from which one can enjoy a fantastic view of the city, the River Sado, Tróia and the Arrábida mountain range, also deserve special mention.

If you arrive early morning we suggest you to visit Arrábida or visit the main historical points and museums of the city.

The hotel is located in the historical center of Setubal, where you can also find great places for dinner.

Day 2: SETUBAL – SANTIAGO DO CACÉM (64 KM)

Stop At: Santiago do Cacem, Santiago do Cacem, Setubal District, Alentejo
After breakfast leave your bags at the reception if you request luggage transfer. Make the check out and take the ferry-boat to Península of Tróia.

Visit the Península of Troia before starting to cycle down in direction Santiago de Compostela.

On the way you shoul also stop in Lagoa de Santo André.

Santiago do Cacém is a peaceful town in the south of Portugal

Overnight in Santiago . If you want dinner included please book in advance. We highly recommend the hotel restaurant.

Day 3: SANTIAGO DO CACÉM – VILA NOVA DE MILFONTES (50 KM)

Stop At: Vila Nova de Milfontes, Vila Nova de Milfontes, Beja District, Alentejo
After breakfast leave your luggage at the Reception if you requested this service.

Take the N120 into direction of Odemira. After the 10 Km turn right into CM1144 in direction to Paiol. There is a very relaxing road. You will start cycling towards west, to the sea direction. The view over the mountains till the sea and Sines is quite impressive. At km 24 cross IC4 into direction of EM544 direction to Porto Covo. Here you have one of the nicest view over the cliffs. Stop in Porto Covo to discover the village.

Porto Covo continues to be the friendly fishing village full of small white houses that was rebuilt by the Marquês de Pombal shortly after the 1755 earthquake.

Some of the greatest attractions for visitors are the many beautiful beaches sheltered by sheer cliffs that are hidden here and there all the way along the coast.

Leaving Porto Covo – direction to Vila Nova de Milfontes

Follow for 12 Km. Vila Nova de Milfontes town is situated at the mouth of the River Mira owes much of its recent development to the great increase in tourism in this region.

Day 4: VILA NOVA DE MILFONTES – SÃO TEOTÓNIO (45 KM)

Stop At: Sao Teotonio, Sao Teotonio, Odemira, Beja District, Alentejo
After breakfast leave your luggage at the Reception if you requested this service.

Take the N120 into direction of Odemira. Visit Almograve and the Lighthouse in Cabo Sardão – the western point of Alentejo coast.

Here, the world slows until it almost stops. The daytime breeze makes us forget worries, raids and more provisions. In this environment so auspicious the sky is invaded by millions of bright spots of light, invisible stars in the city, magical constellations.

Latter visit Zambujeira do Mar.

The beautiful beaches are one of the main attractions for the many visitors that come here. Leaving Zambujeira do Mar you should turn to right into EM 500-2 after 2 km, taking the direction to São Teotónio.

Day 5: SÃO TEOTÓNIO – ALJEZUR (34 KM)

Stop At: Aljezur, Aljezur, Faro District, Algarve
After breakfast, take the N120 direction south towards Aljezur and start you day by visiting Odeceixe Village. The village itself has one of the repaired windmills of the region

You will have a hard task by climbing till Odeceixe beach but it really worth it. The beach is shaped by the Seixes River joining the Sea. Take time to enjoy de beach. Have lunch in one of the small typical restaurant.

After lunch get back to road N120 direction Aljezur. We suggest you a quiet road with far open view also avoiding the traffic.

At the top of the hill, the castle ramparts, symbol of the struggle between Christians and Moors, remind us of its historical past. A cascade of houses tumbling down the hillside towards the river faces the plain where this centenary village found its expansion and future.

Day 6: ALJEZUR – ALDEIA DA PEDRALVA (27 KM TO 37 KM)

Stop At: Pedralva, Pedralva, Faro District, Algarve
Leave Aljezur taking the N120 into direction of Bordeira and then Carrapateira.

Nearby the village of Carrapateira from where access is gained via a tarmac road, the wonderful Bordeira Beach extends over a broad stretch of sand that becomes one of the largest on the Algarve coast during low tide. Request a picnic from Hotel Vicentina.

In Carrapateira you can also visit Museu do Mar e da Terra da Carrapateira

Leave Carrapateira by the N268 into direction of Sagres. On the KM 25 (35Km if you made the carrapateira circuit) turn left into direction of Pedralva.

The Village of Pedralva, a rural village of Vila do Bispo, which was once inhabited by over 100 people, entered in the last 25 years a painful process of desertification. In 2006, it had only nine of its original inhabitants left, and a set of about 50 houses in an advanced state of disrepair. A group of investor with the Municipality of Vila do Bispo started the process of urban rehabilitation, trying to reproduce faithfully the rural environment through the use of restored furniture in all the houses, as well as the use of building materials faithful to the traditional old buildings. Today Aldeia da Pedralva is a touristic project well succeed.

Day 7: ALDEIA DA PEDRALVA – SALEMA (50 KM)

Stop At: Salema Beach, Vila do Bispo Portugal
After breakfast start your last journey by coming back to the main road N268 towards Vila do Bispo.

Have some time do discover Vila do Bispo. Leave Vila do Bispo direction Sagres by the road that will lead you direct to the sea, avoiding the traffic and enjoying the landscape.

You are arriving to your final destination, known by the locals as “the end of the world”.

Take the chance to visit the lighthouse and the Promontorium Sacrum that evokes the memory of the Infante D. Henrique and the Portuguese discoveries.

In addition to the spectacular panorama over the sea and the Cape of São Vicente it is still possible to recognize constructions such as the cistern tower, a windbreak wall, the former dwellings and a barracks and the old parish church of Nossa Senhora da Graça. One of the main attractions for visitors is the huge compass-rose marked on the ground, measuring 43 metres in diameter.
