On the 25th of august, 1988, this area was severely affected by a terrible fire which destructed partially this neighbourhood. Since then, owing to a renovation project coordinated by the famous architect Álvaro Siza Vieira, Chiado has recovered and features the highest real estate property prices in Portugal nowadays.
Considered the most emblematic and cosmopolitan neighbourhood of Lisbon, this area is full of all kind of shops, national and international fashion designers, ateliers, art galleries, bookstores, cafes, restaurants, bars, etc.
