Lisbon is undoubtedly a cosmopolitan and eclectic city and is currently one of the most trendy cities in the world. It is at the top of European tourist preferences, winning awards that distinguish it for its quality and diversity. During this tour of Lisbon, we propose to take you to discover a capital full of history and rich in culture, but also a bold and modern city, with avant-garde architecture.
Stop At: Castelo de S. Jorge, Rua de Santa Cruz do Castelo, Lisbon 1100-129 Portugal
We will start our tour in the heart of Lisbon, in its historical centre, with the visit of the majestic St. George castle, of Islamic origins, built in the middle of the 11th century, which crowns one of the seven hills of the city and offers a magnificent view of the capital and the Tagus River. You will have the opportunity to wander the streets of Lisbon’s oldest neighbourhood, Alfama, and feel its Arab and medieval past.

You can also visit its imposing Cathedral, built in the 12th century, after the city was conquered by Muslims in 1147, by the first king of Portugal, D. Afonso Henriques.

Continuing our tour of Lisbon, through the eastern zone, we will arrive at Park of Nations, the maximum exponent of the capital’s modernity, which contributed decisively to the internationalization of the city. It is a vast riverside area, where the World Exhibition was held in 1998, offering a breath-taking view of the Tagus River and the Vasco da Gama Bridge, the longest bridge in Europe. Park of Nations mirrors a new concept of urban space, with environmentally integrated infrastructures, constituting an extensive cultural, leisure, residential and business complex. Here you will be able to see the most varied expressions of avant-garde architecture, listing the Lisbon Oceanarium, one of the largest aquariums in Europe; Gare do Oriente train station, the impressive work of the Spanish architect Calatrava; and Casino of Lisbon, the capital’s latest entertainment hub.

Heading to the western part of the city, to end our tour of Lisbon, we will arrive at the last must-see point, the Belem neighbourhood, from where the ships of courageous navigators sailed, such as the illustrious Vasco da Gama, who discovered the sea paths to India, in 1498.

You can visit one of Lisbon’s ex-libris, the Jeronimos Monastery, built in the 15th century by King D. Manuel I, and recognized as World Heritage by UNESCO. You will be surrendered to the beauty and grandeur of these monument of Manueline style, the genuinely Portuguese architectural style.

Next visit is to the majestic Belem Tower, built in the 15th century, at the request of King Manuel I, and awarded as World Heritage by UNESCO. Undoubtedly one of the most beautiful jewels of the Portuguese architectural style, Manueline, the style that inherited the name of the aforementioned monarch.

Much more recent, but also evoking this golden period of the Discoveries, is the Monument of Discoveries, built in the 20th century, which pays homage to the Portuguese explorers.
