In Vila Fresca de Azeitão, known for its excellent wine produced by the José Maria da Fonseca cellars, which produces the “Periquita” wine and the famous Moscatel de Setúbal will have the opportunity to follow its production method, making a wine tasting. This village is also sought after by traditionally hand-painted São Simão tiles, where we have a brief description of the process of molding the clay and its painting. To end in a “sweet” way this visit tastes like Azeitão pie, typical of the region.
Quinta José Maria da Fonseca, a family business with almost two centuries of history, was founded in 1834 and is the oldest Portuguese table and Moscatel wine company. António Soares Franco belongs to the sixth generation of the Soares Franco family, owner of the company for over 170 years. Brazil was early one of the main destinations of these wines.
In addition to the famous Azeitão pies, a typical egg-based sweet with a slight lemon and cinnamon flavor we can also delight ourselves and purchase another product representative of the region, the traditional and famous Azeitão cheese made from sheep’s milk. appreciated for its unique flavor.

In Arrábida Mountain you can enjoy a wonderful view of the Atlantic Ocean and the beautiful Troia Peninsula, a tongue of sand that stretches across the Sado estuary. The Serra is protected by its diversity of fauna and flora and its well-known beach of fine white sand with transparent and bright waters, the Figueirinha Beach, in Portinho da Arrábida. On the slopes of the Sierra we also find an old Franciscan monastery, the Convent of Nossa Senhora da Arrábida.
In the heart of the Serra da Arrábida Natural Park we come to Figueirinha Beach, owner of a unique natural beauty. It is a beach much appreciated by families for its calm sea, emerging a long sandbar at low tide ideal for children. Near this beach is a wooded area, which is very popular mainly in summer for picnics. You can also enjoy stunning views of Tróia and Portinho da Arrábida.

Setúbal was born from the river and the sea, existing since the time of the Romans, we find numerous traces since the Neolithic period and the Phoenician and Greek civilizations. São Filipe Castle, often referred to as a fort or fortress, dates from the 17th century and played a tactical role in reinforcing the Portuguese coast line of defense, battered by pirates from northern Europe and Africa. It now functions as an inn with a tiled Baroque chapel dating from 1736. From the fort’s walls you have one of the most privileged panoramic views of the city and the bay.

The city of Palmela dates back to the Roman period, having been conquered by D. Afonso Henriques to the Moors in 1147. We highlight as main monuments the Pousada de Palmela and its imposing castle, built around the 9th century, located 240 meters above the level of the sea, where on clear days you can see Lisbon.
This castle has a magnificent view over the plain of the Tagus and Sado estuary, as well as the Arrábida mountain range. Built by the Moors, it was donated to the Order of Santiago, which settled here definitively in 1210. To the west of the castle is the old convent, built in 1423.
