The main square and epicenter of the old town. It is well preserved and maintains the same layout as it had at the beginning of the 15th century. Pay attention to the arches, the Baroque fountain and the beautiful Church of Santo Antão.

This monument/temple dates from the 1st century and its ruins are considered the best preserved Roman ruins in the Iberian Peninsula.

The Cathedral is a good example of the transition from Romanesque to Gothic and impresses with its grandeur. The “Bone Chapel” is located in the Church of San Francisco, built in the 18th century and was completely lined with human bones. It is also known for the famous phrase written at the entrance “We bones that are here, for your’s we wait”.

It is located within the city walls, so finish the afternoon with a walk around the medieval fence. The total distance from the walls is about 4 km, so you can choose to walk through only one of the sections or see them all and enjoy the view and architectural details.
