Stop At: Igreja de Sao Francisco, Praca 1 de Maio, Evora 7000-656 Portugal

Building from the 15th and 16th centuries, in Manueline-Mudejar and Renaissance style, replacing an earlier Gothic temple, of which some remains still remain. The Royal Palace was annexed and was considered a Royal Church, in which important ceremonies were held, with the wedding of Prince D. Afonso with D. Isabel de Castela, in 1490.
The facade of the church is characterized by the volume of the crowns and the portal is decorated by the royal emblems of D. João II and D. Manuel I. Its interior features a unique nave, rectangular in shape and in Latin cross, with emphasis on the altar -mor and the Chapel of the Third Order of S. Francisco, in Baroque style. The most popular curiosity resides in the Chapel of Bones, with three naves completely formed by human bones (17th century).
The convent was demolished in the late 19th century.

Stop At: Cathedral of Evora (Se Catedral de Evora), Largo do Marques de Marialva Centro Histórico, Evora 7000-809 Portugal

The Sé Basilica of Nossa Senhora da Assunção, better known as Évora Cathedral, or simply Évora Cathedral, although started in 1186 and consecrated in 1204, this granite cathedral was only ready in 1250. It is a monument marked by the transition of style Romanesque to Gothic, marked by three majestic naves. In the 15th and 16th centuries, the cathedral received major improvements, dating from that time the high choir, pulpit, baptistery and arch of the chapel of Nossa Senhora da Piedade, also known as Capela do Esporão, a rare example of Plateresque hybrid architecture, dated 1529. From the Baroque period there are some gilded altarpieces and other occasional improvements in sumptuous decorations. Still in the 18th century, the cathedral was enriched with the construction of the new chancel, sponsored by King D. João V, where the exuberance of marbles was wisely combined with the Roman-Gothic austerity of the temple. In 1930, at the request of the Archbishop of Évora, Pope Pius XI granted the Cathedral the title of Minor Basilica. In the following decades, some restoration works were carried out, such as the demolition of the 18th century vestibules of the cabido (which allowed to uncover the exterior face and the rosettes of the cloister) and the laying down of some Baroque altarpieces that distorted the medieval environment side ships.
