What makes Knights Templar Route Full Day Private Tour from Lisbon a unique experience ?

Research about the castle they founded in Tomer in 1160, inspired by the fortifications of the Holy Land and at the time was the most modern and advanced military stronghold in the Portuguese kingdom

Situated in the centre of Tomar next to one of the main avenues, the woods Mata Nacional dos Sete Montes with 39 ha is the main park of the city. There are 7 hills occupied by luxurious vegetation, where we can also find aromatic and medicinal herbs.

The Igreja de Santa Maria do Olival was built at the orders of the knight Gualdim Pais in the 12th century to serve as the Pantheon for the Order of the Knights Templar. Inside the church are the Gothic tombs of Gualdim Pais, Mestre Lourenço Martins and Mestre Dom Gil Martins.

Conquered from the Moors in 1150, it was made a village in 1571 by letter from D. Sebastião. During the French Invasions it was heavily vandalized. It would later be restored, conserving today many points of rare scenic, architectural and archaeological beauty.

In the middle of the Tagus River, the enigmatic Castelo de Almourol is one of the most emblematic monuments of the Christian Reconquest.
When the Christians arrived here in 1129, the castle already existed under the name of Almorolan, having been included in the lands given to the Templars, under the orders of Gualdim Pais. According to an inscription at the entrance, the reconstruction works date back to 1171.
