Classified as a national monument since June 16, 1910, Sesimbra Castle is the last of the Portuguese coastal castles to remain in a good state of preservation even today.
From the top of its ramparts, the panoramic view of the Sado estuary and the Serra de l’Arrábida is spectacular. . Fort São Filipe built in the 16th century was the initiative of King Philip II of Spain. In the past, this important fortification served to reinforce the defense line of the Portuguese coast.
We take the famous road N379, mythical and picturesque, it crosses part of the Serra d’Arrabida. This natural park of 10,800 hectares is bordered on one side by the mountain and on the other by the exceptionally beautiful coastline.
The return journey takes approximately 1 hour. The time may vary depending on traffic.
