The Palmela castle is located on one of the highest points in the Serra da Arrábida. It is difficult to get to and was hence ideal for its role in defending the surrounding lands.

Evora was considered a world heritage site by UNESCO in 1986. According to this organisation, Evora is a museum-city with roots dating back to roman times. The golden age happened in the 16th century, when the portuguese kings lived here.

In 1537, the city’s old Roman aqueduct was rebuilt, bringing clean water to the marble fountain in the Praça do Giraldo and other public spaces in Évora.
