It is the 40-meters tall monument located in the heart of Lisbon, that is dedicated to one of its most important citizens, Marques de Pombal, a Portuguese politician of the 18th-century. He is best known for taking the leading role in the rebuilding Lisbon, after it suffered a devastating earthquake back in 1755, which has left most of the city in ruins.

It was originally named in honor of Portuguese dictator António de Oliveira Salazar, but was renamed for April 25, the date of the Carnation Revolution which put a stop to the remnants of the Salazar’s regime.
