Visit the centre of the Village
Sintra, located 30km from Lisbon is called the Portuguese Riviera.
Sintra is an important tourist destination in Portugal, famous for its picturesque and for its countless historic palaces and castles.
The historic center of Vila de Sintra is famous for its 19th century romantic architecture, historic properties and villages, gardens and numerous royal palaces and castles, which resulted in the city’s classification and its historic passage as a UNESCO World Herit.
All Portuguese Royal Families from XVI Century spent their summer holidays in Sintra, as the climate is cooler than in Lisbon.

The Pena Palace (Portuguese: Palácio da Pena) is a Romanticist castle, on the Portuguese Riviera. The castle stands on the top of a hill in the Sintra Mountains above the town of Sintra, and on a clear day it can be easily seen from Lisbon . It is a national monument and constitutes one of the major expressions of 19th-century Romanticism in the world. The palace is a UNESCO World Heritage, and one of the Seven Wonders of Portugal. It is also used for state occasions by the President of the Portuguese Republic.
This Palace looks like a Disney movie with fantastic architecture and beautiful colors in the middle of the forest.

In the center of the Village of Sintra you should go to Piriquita (very famous pastry shop) to have a coffee and eat Sintra’s sweet specialties (Queijada and Travesseiro)

On the way up to the Pena Palace, we passed the Palace Gardens, which are beautiful and were built by King D. Fernando in 1836.
As the King was German, he had all these trees planted from all over the world, so that he felt he was in the black forest in Germany.

Pass By: Castelo dos Mouros, Estrada da Pena Parque de Monserrate, Sintra 2710-609 Portugal

Castelo dos Mouros is a fortification built around the 10th century after the Muslim conquest of the Iberian Peninsula.
Noteworthy are the interventions carried out during the first dynasty, initiated by D. Afonso Henriques after the takeover of Lisbon and Santarém (1147); until the use of the fortification in the reign of D. Fernando I (1383); the damage caused by the 1755 earthquake; the restoration works of D. Fernando II in the 19th century, according to the romantic taste of the time.
