The Roman Theater Museum is a museum space dedicated to the Roman theater of Lisbon, which was built in the time of Augustus (r. 27 BC – 14 AD) and occupies the southern slope of the hill of Castelo de São Jorge next to Pátio do Aljube, 5 (on Rua Augusto Rosa). The theater, abandoned in the 4th century AD, remained buried until 1798, the year in which the ruins were discovered after the 1755 earthquake. The museum is housed in a 17th century building, in the area likely to be one of the theater’s old entrances.
