Stop At: Park and National Palace of Pena, Estrada da Pena, Sintra 2710-609 Portugal

Pena National Palace, located at the top of the Sintra mountains and the fruit of the dreams of an artist king, D. Fernando II, the Pena Park and Palace are Portugal’s finest examples of 19th century Romanticism. Must stop for those visiting the romantic and mysterious Sintra Village. After visiting the Park and Pena Palace, composer Richard Strauss wrote:”Today is the happiest day of my life. It’s the most beautiful thing I’ve seen. This is the true Klingsor Garden – and there, up on high, is the Holy Grail Castle.”

Stop At: Casa Piriquita, R. Padarias 1 18, 2710-603 Sintra, Portugal

In the time between visits to the monument and the village, you can stroll through the narrow winding streets in the old town where you will find a variety of restaurants, shops with typical articles of the region and the famous “Piriquita” Tea House, known for their delicious regional pastry called “Travesseiros de Sintra”, a must for anyone visiting Sintra.

Stop At: Farol do cabo da Roca, Estrada do Cabo da Roca, Sintra 2705-001 Portugal

Experience Cape Roca. This cape forms the westernmost extent of mainland Portugal and continental Europe. The famous Portuguese poet Luis de Camões wrote in the XVI century that this cape is: “Where land ends and sea begins”. The windswept cliffs of the Cape Roca were believed to be the edge of the world.

Stop At: Guincho Beach, Parque Natural Sintra-Cascais, Cascais Portugal

Part of the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park, Guincho Beach is endowed with a surrounding landscape of great beauty in which the white sand dunes contrast with the deep tones of the Serra de Sintra hills, looming in the background.

Given both its strong winds and waves, the Beach attracts a great following among bodyboarders and surfers. Throughout summer, there is generally a good northerly wind ensuring Guincho is excellent for windsurfing.

Stop At: Boca do Inferno, Northern section of Cascais, Cascais 2750-642 Portugal

Marvel at Boca do Inferno (Hell’s Mouth). This coastal recess surrounded by steep cliffs and caves attracts many visitors. You may be lucky and visit this mysterious site on a day where the waves rush against the rocks.

Get to know Cascais, a lively and cosmopolitan town, which still retains its aristocratic trace.
