Itinerary

Day 1: Lisbon and Sintra Private Tour

Stop At: Cidade Baixa, Lisbon Portugal
We’ll start our day departing from your hotel in Lisbon, visiting Baixa, in 1755, Lisbon was the site of the biggest earthquake ever recorded in Europe.

At the time, the Marquis of Pombal, took on the mission to reconstruct the city center which was completely ruined and devastated due to this catastrophe.
And as such, the first modern European city was born: “Baixa Pombalina” with its urban and geometric architectural plan, it became the model used in the construction of other new cities, especially in the New World (for example Manhattan in New York, Chicago city center, etc.)

Here we will visit the famous squares “Praça do Comércio” and “Rossio” (statue of the first Emperor of Brazil, D. Pedro I), Rua Augusta (the most important pedestrian street in Portugal, with its famous Arch of Triumph.

Pass By: Alfama, Lisbon Portugal
Next, we head for Alfama neighborhood, the oldest quarter of Lisbon dates back to the time of the Moors’ conquest of the city (8th to 12th centuries). The panoramic views from the famous “miradouros” of Santa Luzia and Senhora do Monte are a must stop on our tour, where you can contemplate the wonderful sights of the Tagus River and of the city.

We will explore the narrow cobblestone alleys and streets where the facades of traditional houses are covered with beautiful tiles, an Arabian heritage in the Iberian Peninsula. Also, it is here that “Fado”, the Portuguese national song was born. Two other places of interest are, the Lisbon Cathedral (built in 1448) and the Church of St. Anthony, patron saint of lost causes and weddings, (built on the site where he was born).

Stop At: Sintra, Sintra, Sintra Municipality, Lisbon District, Central Portugal
Time now to enjoy the center of Sintra, Its microclimate transforms this small town situated on the slopes of the mountain range “Serra de Sintra” and next to the Atlantic into a major attraction for visitors who go there to admire its famous castles and palaces or simply taste the traditional food, pastries and sweets.

We will stop in the historic center where you will have time to try the famous “travesseiros” and “queijadas” in the Piriquita Pastry Shop and explore the narrow streets of the most romantic town in Portugal.

Stop At: Park and National Palace of Pena, Estrada da Pena, Sintra 2710-609 Portugal
In Sintra, you will be given the choice to decide on the next monument to visit ( we suggest a maximum of one Palace ), from a wide range of options: Sintra National Palace, Pena Palace, Quinta da Regaleira, Monserrate Palace, Moorish Castle.

Of course we will help you decide, providing information on each and every one of these spectacular monuments.

Stop At: Estrada Cabo da Roca, Colares 2705-001 Portugal
Then our Tour takes us through the beautiful Sintra mountain range towards Cascais by Colares, a must stop to visit Cabo da Roca (westernmost point of the European continent), “where the Earth ends and the sea begins “ words of Luis de Camoes a famous Portuguese Poet from the 16th century written in “Os Lusíadas,”(Canto VIII).The imposing Lighthouse with its 165 meters high built in 1772, the Atlantic Ocean strength, revealing to us one of the most emblematic places in Portugal, local of extreme importance in the period of maritime expansion.
Great place to take pictures and with some schedule changes you can even enjoy the sunset.

Stop At: Cascais, Cascais, Lisbon District, Central Portugal
Time to explore Cascais, this old Roman town of fishermen became a well-known beach resort in the 20th century, favorite among the people of Lisbon who come here to enjoy the sun and the sea.

The town is also known internationally for its big nautical events (America’s Cup, Red Bull, FlugTagg). Cascais attracts many tourists from all over the world, whether to visit or live.

Pass By: Estoril, Estoril, Cascais, Lisbon District, Central Portugal
On our way back to Lisbon, we pass by Estoril, famous for its casino (largest gambling room in Europe) and the “nest” of spies during the 2nd world war, where Yan Fleming got his inspiration to write the first James Bond book, Casino Royale, this former “nest” of espionage during World War II, especially demonstrated by its Casino, considered the largest in Europe, turning the whole coast, we arrived again in Lisbon, more precisely in Belem.

Stop At: Belem, Belem, Lisbon, Lisbon District, Central Portugal
Arriving in Belem (Bethlehem), the district/quarter of Lisbon that is dedicated to the great Portuguese explorers of the 15th and 16th centuries.

Portugal was the first globalized country in the world with the arrival of its explorers to all continents, it´s empire became one of the largest in the history of humanity.

The majestic monuments that we find here are a reflection of the golden era in the history of Portugal: Monastery of Jeronimos, Belem Tower, and the Monument to the Discoveries with the statues of the great Portuguese sailors and explorers, Pedro Alvares Cabral, Vasco da Gama among others.

Finally, there is a must-visit to the famous “Pastéis de Belém”, one of Portugal´s most typical pastries.

Day 2: Fatima, Batalha, Nazare and Obidos Private Tour

Stop At: Fatima, Fatima, Santarem District, Central Portugal
Our first stop will be in Fatima, considered by many one of the most important Marian Shrines in the world, millions of people come here annually to pay homage to the three shepherd children who witnessed the apparitions of the Virgin Mary in the fields of “Cova da Iria”.

Stop At: Basilica da Santissima Trindade, Cova da Iria – Santuario de Nossa Senhora de Fatima, Fatima 2496 Portugal
The Chapel of the Apparitions where you can see the statue of Our Lady of Fatima, we will also visit the Basilica where we can find the tombs of Lucia, Jacinta and Francisco (the last two were canonized by Pope Francis on May 2017, thus becoming the youngest saints of the Catholic Church).
As we continue, we will visit the modern church of the Blessed Trinity of Fatima, which seats 8,633 people and has an area of 40,000 m2. The church was designed and projected by the Greek architect, Alexandros Tombazis.

Stop At: Batalha Monastery, Largo Infante Dom Henrique 2440, Batalha 2440-484 Portugal
In a trip of about thirty minutes we arrive at the Batalha Monastery, the best example of Gothic architecture in Portugal, the Monastery was ordered to be built by King João I to celebrate the Portuguese victory of the famous battle of Aljubarrota in 1385.

UNESCO World Heritage Site monument is one of the best examples of European Gothic architecture, in its last stages.

This monastery, symbol of Portugal’s national pride is without a doubt one of the most beautiful models of Portuguese medieval architecture.

Stop At: Nazare, Nazare, Leiria District, Central Portugal
Nazare fishing village (the most charismatic fishing village in Portugal), In the last century, Nazare became one of the most sought after beach resorts by Portuguese tourists to spend their summer.
White sandy beaches of enormous length captivate all those who come through here, whether to enjoy a weekend or simply to have a great delicious meal by the sea.
Nowadays Nazare became known worldwide because of its giant waves in “Praia Norte”, being considered the biggest in the world, title conquered in a giant 29- meter wave surfed by Garret McNamara, an American from the state of Hawaii.

Stop At: Obidos, Obidos, Leiria District, Central Portugal
Then we will get to Obidos village (Unesco World Heritage), an ancient Roman city that continued flourishing even after the fall of the empire due to the huge commercial activity of products done by sea.

In the Middle Ages, a wall was built around it after being conquered by the first king of Portugal, Afonso I.

As we explore this walled town, we go back in time and find narrow cobblestone alleys, houses with secular facades painted in white, a lively shopping area, and a number of churches that were built throughout the centuries.

Here, we can imagine travelling back to the time of kings and queens. We get the sensation of the battles fought here for every piece of land.

Here we will discovery of one of the most famous and appreciated Portuguese liqueurs, the Obidos “ginja”, prepared?
