To finish, come visit the beautiful wine-house in Colares, “Adega Regional de Colares” and have a go at a few tastings. The wine-house was founded in 1931 and is the oldest Wine Cooperative in the country. It is home for most of Sintra’s wine producers. The building itself is impressive, and its interior is dazzling by the size and number of casks it houses. This is where the magic happens, where the wine ages in wood casks, giving it a special flavor that can only be found in this area of Portugal.

On one of the highest peaks of the Sintra mountains stands the spectacular Pena Palace, an eclectic mix of architectural styles built in the 19th century for the husband of the young Queen Maria II. The palace is full of charms and attractions.

This 8th century castle was conquered from the Moors by King Afonso Henriques in 1147. Its walls wind around the top of the mountain. Truth be told, the views to the Pena Palace and the coast are fantastic.

According to tradition the name of this beach had its origin in the apples that used to arrive on the sand, carried by the Colares stream that flows here.

The oldest cooperative cellar in Portugal! Since 1931, the main purpose of this cooperative is to perform, by the appropriate means and techniques, the vinification of grapes from the farms of its members, thus performing an important social function, concerning the agricultural sector of the municipality of Sintra.
