Porto Trip Overview

From Porto to the Vinho Verde Demarcated Region, in Penafiel, Porto district. We will take a guided tour to Quinta da Aveleda, founded in 1870. At the end, will have a wine tasting. Next we will visit Quintandona, a unique schist village. To finish there will still time to visit the “Castro do Monte Mosinho” hillfort, considered the largest Roman Castro in the Iberian Peninsula.

What to Expect When Visiting Porto, Northern Portugal, Portugal

Stop At: Quinta da Aveleda, N0 2 Rua da Aveleda, Penafiel 4560-570 Portugal

At Quinta da Aveleda we will visit the Historical Gardens and the Wine estate. When visiting the gardens, we will observe rare species of century-old trees, such as the Japanese cedar, the swamp cypress or the American redwood, a wide range of camellias. The lake, the Manueline style Window, the Tea House, the fontains of “Nossa Senhora da Vandoma” and the Four Seasons. At the end of the visit we will make a tasting of Vinho Verde.

Stop At: Quintandona, Quintandona, Porto District, Northern Portugal

Next we will enjoy the beauty of Quintandona’s landscape and architecture stand out upon arrival. Full of history, the village belongs to the parish of Lagares and to the municipality of Penafiel, being close to the urban centres, which does not prevent it from preserving all the tradition. Its architecture is unique: the buildings of the village use three different materials: granite, schist and blackboard, which give it a very distinctive personality.

Stop At: Castro de Monte Mozinho, Oldroes, Penafiel 4575 Portugal

At the end of this route, there will still be time to visit the Monte Mozinho hillfort or Cidade Morta de Penafiel, located in the parishes of Oldrões and Galegos, municipality of Penafiel. A Castro settlement from the Roman period, founded in the 1st century AD but with a wide chronology of occupation, which even reaches the 5th century. It is the largest Roman settlement in the Iberian Peninsula, although it is not yet fully explored.
