São Bento Station, and originally Porto Central Station, is an interface of the Minho Line, which serves the city of Porto, in Portugal. Of medieval origin, when there was already a great economic activity there, due to the presence of a port a few kilometers from the mouth of the river. Douro river, was an area of intense commerce, with sales tents and a fish auction.

The street was opened between 1521-1525, at the end of the reign of D. Manuel, on land occupied by the bishop’s vegetable gardens, when it was called “Rua de Santa Catarina das Flores”.

The Church of the Carmelites began to be built in 1616 and was completed in 1628. The interior decoration would only be ready in 1650. The church belonged to the extinct convent, now occupied by the Republican National Guard.
