Stop At: Cortem Winery, Rua Joao Alves 37 39 Vidais, Leiria 2500-741 Portugal
Situated in the Estramadura (Lisboa Wines) in the DOC Obidos region, the vineyards are set in Hilly country near to Caldas da Rainha, The climate is temperate to cool, with a strong maritime influence and summer temperatures seldom above 30 degrees. Late harvests lead to well-structured wines with natural acidity but sometimes high alcohol content. Our vines were planted between 2000 and 2005 on cleared fields previously unused for 30 years and have been grown organically from the beginning leading to full certification in 2010. Grapes and wines of this vintage and beyond are organically certified.
Our charming and romantic wine tasting room ” Sala de Provas” is probably the oldest building here and is a place where our wines can be savoured in a traditional atmosphere together with the food prepared and served by Helga, which truly compliment the wines.
We host regular wine tastings, by appointment, and we don’t rush you, givng you up to eight different red wines, a talk about wine making and a slide show of the work and life at Cortém. The food, made by Helga, never runs out, and specialties of Cortém (cheese feet) and many other ones are served!
