Cooked for 6 to 7 hours in holes in the volcanic soil, the Furnas stew is one of the most unique dishes in the Azores.
Vila das Furnas is located in a valley known by locals as Vale Encantado das Furnas. Discover several boiling water boilers and several fumaroles in this area. You will have the opportunity to taste several mineral waters.
Stop at Lagoa das Furnas where you will find the chapel of Nossa Srª das Vitorias, unique in its Gothic style. Around the lagoon there is a set of wooden statues that will provide fun photographs.
Visit what was the first capital of São Miguel, destroyed in 1522 with a break at Vila Franca Marina where you can have your coffee in the place where the typical and unique “Vila Queijadas” are produced
Optionally visit the Volcanic Park where the famous “cozido” is made next to the Furnas lagoon and walk through boilers of boiling and muddy water. (admission not included, 3€ per person)
