Terras de Bouro Trip Overview
Horseback ride through medieval villages and oak forests, past castles and ancient Roman roads in Gerês, Portugal’s only national park.
We’ll begin our ride in Campo do Gerês and head to the village of St. Isabel do Monte, where we’ll dine on local Portuguese fare and bed down for the night. We’ll visit Abadia’s Sanctuary and look out for wild horses on our way to the mountain village of Ventozelo.
Finally, we’ll trot back to Campo do Gerês, stopping at Caniçada Dam to look out over the Cávado River.

Itinerary
Day 1: Horseback Ride to S. Isabel do Monte
Pass By: Igreja de Santa Isabel do Monte, 4840, Portugal
We’ll start at Campo do Gerês and head to St. Isabel do Monte through oak forests, historical monuments and astonishing landscapes.
On this first day the highlight of our visit will be the Castle of Bouro, at 890m of altitude.

Day 2: Abadia’s Sanctuary and Ventozelo Village
Pass By: Santuario de Nossa Senhora da Abadia, Largo do Santuario da Abadia Santa Maria do Bouro, Amares 4720-643 Portugal
Starting at Sta. Isabel do Monte, we’ll cross the forest paths and visit Abadia’s Sanctuary. After pausing for a picnic, we’ll head to the village of Ventozelo, a very characteristic mountain village, having high chances to spot wild horses on the way

Day 3: Ride through Mountain Villages
Pass By: 4840-030 Campo do Gerês, Portugal
Starting point at St. Isabel do Monte and ending point at Campo do Gerês. Along this route we’ll visit several mountain villages and a fantastic viewpoint over Caniçada’s dam. We’ll cross forest paths and an ancient Roman road
