Vila, Porto Moniz Trip Overview

This tour begins in Porto Moniz at 09:00 a.m, proceeding to a viewpoint with a superb view to the village of Porto Moniz on or way to see the vineyards located at the top of Porto Moniz, exploring the vineyard area in a guided way, includes local wine, cheese, and tapas tasting.

Then continue off-road towards to the Feira do Gado Picnic, followed by Paul da Serra off and the Miradouro das Quebradas – Casa do Elias with a fantastic view to the Seixal village.

Then we off-road to the industrial park of Calheta, following on the old road for Calheta City to visit Engenhos da Calheta.

We follow with a visit to the Ponta de Pargo Light House and a viewpoint called the Garganta Funda.

We continue to Pico Vermelho Viewpoint, go off-road to Capela da Nossa Senhora da Boa Morte – Cabo.

Along the way, we still visit the Levada do Moinho in Achadas da Cruz (Mill Levada).

In a local bar, we will try the famous regional liqueurs, banana and passion fruit, accompanied by honey cookies

Paúl da Serra at 1,300 – 1,500 metres above sea level is a tourist attraction located on the central west part of the island, the flattest place in all of Madeira with stunning views over the green mountains and valleys. On a clear day it’s possible to observe the south and the north sea!

Here is the starting point of many paths and levada walks which connect you to different locations on the Island such as Rabaçal, Risco, 25 Fontes, Pico Ruivo, Ribeira do Alecrim, Lombo do Mouro and Bica da Cana all passing through the Laurissilva forest.

Then we off-road to the industrial park of Calheta, following on the old road for Calheta City to visit Engenhos da Calheta.The Calheta Milling Company was founded during a period of great industrial development during the second sugar boom at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century.
It is a living example of the sugar production of the past, with half a century of history, as it is one of the oldest mills on the island of Madeira.
It produces high quality rum, produced through controlled fermentation and careful distillation, along with sugar cane syrup, obtained by steam cooking sugar cane juice.
Located in the village of Calheta, the factory operates once a year, normally just after Easter Week.
The facility and all the machinery used for the production of sugar cane spirits and syrup, can be visited all year round. It has a tasting room and a cellar-bar.

The Ponta do Pargo Lighthouse viewpoint, located in Ponta Vigia, on the island’s westernmost cape, rises to an elevation of 312 m, offering stunning views of the immense ocean and the rugged landscape, extending from the Ponta do Pargo lighthouse to Achadas da Cruz.

The viewpoint near the Chapel of Nossa Senhora da Boa Morte in Cabo is one of the least known in Madeira.
From the exposed viewing platform on the headland you can gaze along the rugged western coastline. The starkness of the view is breathtaking and the fact that there will most likely be no other people in sight will add to the atmosphere of beautiful isolation.
The walk to the headland is short in itself, but you can incorporate it into various options of the nearby levada walk. Or, maybe, you just want to stop off at the point on your journey to Port Moniz? Either way, try to make sure that you don’t miss this little known miradouro, the views will not disappoint.
